personally, i have not heard any news about dave bachinsky for some time now, but he has been handling and working on his new project, shape three. a non- profit / d.i.y woodwork cottage industry, that recycles and repurpose used / broken skateboard decks, enabling him to raise funds for his local skate park. massive big ups, dave! \m/

for the past few years, dave bachinsky as been taking his broken boards and boards from friends to repurpose into photo frames and rings. he takes 75% percent of the proceeds and gives it directly to his hometown to help build new obstacles at the local park he learned to skate at.

skateistan & oliver percovich!

this year’s eric stricker memorial award deservedly goes to the incredible people at skateistan, who have spent the past eight years using skateboarding as a tool of empowerment for youths in afghanistan, south africa and cambodia. founded by oliver percovich in 2007 and with their first facility opened in ’09 in kabul, the non-profit, non-governmental organization works with children from a range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds in some of the most war-torn and impoverished countries on the planet to build trust, offer educational opportunities and bring hope to youths whose lives and living conditions might otherwise seem exceedingly difficult from our perspective of first-world comforts.

fdr skatepark: a visual history.

fdr skatepark began its life in 1996 with a few small obstacles built by the city of philadelphia in an attempt to meet the needs of a growing community. in true d-i-y fashion, local skaters soon gathered their resources and began the ongoing construction of a space of their own design. as the world's largest d-i-y skateboard park, today fdr is recognized throughout the world as a landmark in the skateboarding community. a photographic history of fdr, this book contains work from more than 25 contributors, from amateurs with disposable cameras to professional photographers. side by side with the actual skateboarding are photos of wildfires, box cutter wounds, riot police, and drunks shooting sewer rats. complete with oral histories gathered from park locals, this one-of-a-kind record documents the legend and landscape of the past fifteen years under the bridge.

tragic loss of skateistan youth...

on the morning of saturday september 8th a suicide attack in kabul claimed the lives of a number of young afghans. the bomb was detonated outside of the international security assistance force (isaf) hq, where many of the street working children of kabul sell trinkets, scarves and chewing gum to help support their families.

we are very sad to learn that of the six young children confirmed to have passed away, four of them were students, volunteers and youth leaders at skateistan, who were well-loved and well-known faces for the entire team in kabul. it is therefore with great pain and heavy hearts that we share our memories of children who were not just victims of senseless violence, but also beautiful human beings who will never be forgotten by their teachers, peers, co-workers, students, friends or family.

ironxhanger is looking to work with sincere d.i.y / independent skateboarding artivists worldwide. designing or doing collaborations / crossovers artwork(s) for decks, t shirts and whatnots for / with ironxhanger.

it'll be commissioned based but to be honest, i cannot afford to pay much, in monetary sense. the most, if not all i can provide in return, are some of the actual products which your artwork(s) were used for. also, you are allowed to keep the original copies of the artwork(s).

interested parties, please hit me an email here and kindly leave your contact details. such as name, location on planet earth, artist moniker, medium / style, aim or skype screen / user name and a best sample (in *.jpeg, *.png or *psd format, preferably in 300 dpi or higher resolution) of the style of your art (need not worry, i won't use the sample of your artwork sent) and we can discuss the project from there on.

but please bear in mind that it'll take a while for the project(s) to be finalised, as i can get pretty busy with my other obligations.
