levi's® skateboarding!!!

skateboarding in puerto peñasco, mexico.

our fall 2016 campaign shoot took place in puerto peñasco, mexico. in this 3-minute documentary, we follow a small, but energized community of skateboarders and help them build a new skate park.

...

community service - puerto peñasco, mexico.

the levi's® skateboarding crew broke ground at puerto peñasco's newest park, cutting the ribbon with the city’s mayor in march, 2016. they found the time to also build several new diy obstacles at the existing park and also hit the streets, encountering a handful of rad spots with the local skaters.

peace park - the documentary trailer.

peace park is a documentary about a turf war ragging in a small park in the heart of montreal’s downtown core. fighting for the public space is a community of lifers that consists of drug dealers, crack addicts, alcoholics, prostitutes, and the homeless. there is also a community of skaters who use this spot because it’s perfect for skateboarding. the two communities battle daily over the space, but there exists a larger conflict with the city and broader elements of society who see both groups as “undesirable”.

local skateboarder david bouthillier has chronicled these conflicts for the past 12 years as the city and police embarked on measures bordering on the absurd in an attempt to rid the park of these communities and clean up the area’s image.

the documentary explores the historical importance of the neighborhood and how a series of attempts by the city to clean up the area has contributed to the current situation in the park. it looks at the present political conflicts between corporate greed and grassroots artists, and how different forms of underground culture, particularly skateboarding and graffiti, have made their mark on the public space.

a theme of tolerance is weaved throughout the story, told through interviews and personal accounts matched with raw, violent and highly disturbing footage that reveals a unique glimpse into the reality of the street life for many metropolitans.

a human perspective is maintained by showing individuals with problems that need addressing instead of a single problem while highlighting broader social and urban problems.

san antonio de los baños: a visual vignette!

the video is a 3 minute mood piece mostly shot in a small town called san antonio de los baños, cuba - where the second biggest skate scene on the island resides. on every trip to cuba, we visit this small town to deliver skate gear and support the town's emerging skate community. we bring havana skaters on these trips, and it's a great way to build and grow the island's skateboarding family. shot in july of 2013.

a big thanks to insightful for the licensing of his music!

-----

veedro films follows a crew of talented and restless skaters from havana, 23yg, as they team up with american skateboarder miles jackson to build a state-of-the art skate park and vie for a chance to host their country’s first-ever international skate competition. the crew faces challenges. their current skatepark is decrepit and needs repairs before they can host a first-class skate competition, sponsors are hesitant to work around a harsh american embargo, and there are many bureaucratic hurdles in the way before the cuban government approves construction permits.

but over the 9 months it takes to build the park, jackson and 23yg will prove that they can overcome cultural prejudice, bridge the gap between cuban and american bureaucracies, and host a skate competition, opening cuba to a global cultural movement.

the cinder cone!

this back to nature, alternative lifestyle and also a little skateboarding, short docu-film, is too good not to be shared. this really changed my perspectives on the idea of “alternative living space”. to sum this short, utopians living lifestyle and communing. that's just my personal humble opinion and take on what i've observed. please check this out and judge it for yourselves. also, share this video on the world wide web! thanks!

in the spring of 2014, a small group of close friends broke ground on a building project in skamania county, washington in the columbia river gorge. their primary endeavor was a multi-platform tree house but also included a skate bowl and a wood fired soaking tub as well. the crew came from all over the country and from a variety of backgrounds. some were professional carpenters, others learned on the job, gaining experience along the way. the cinder cone is foster huntington’s short film that documents this year-long process of building his dream home with this community of tight knit friends.

ambivalence | adelaide based skateboarding documentary!

inspirational and moving...! motivational! you have to watch this docu-film! =)

ambivalence ~ is a state of having simultaneous, conflicting feelings toward a person or thing. stated another way, ambivalence is the experience of having thoughts and/or emotions of both positive and negative valence toward someone or something.

the story behind the project:
my original plans for this project were to promote skateboarding not so much as a sport but more of a lifestyle. i aimed to reach out to the growing community of skateboarders and shed some light on this incredible sport.

i focused not so much on the feeling of skateboarding but more so the freedom of speech and the positives that come from skateboarding.

for the last few years skateboarding and filmmaking have played a huge part in my life. i wanted to get adelaide, my hometown on the map! this was my way of doing that.

attempting to educate the members of society that often cast a negative view on us as skateboarders and hopefully shed some positive light on this wonderful thing. that is skateboarding.

purchase the film, here!

featuring: james goreing, mark alcorn, matthew symons, jarrod knoblauch, andre castellucci, darryl heaft and joff s-l.

epicly later'd: 20 years of chocolate!

part one!

chocolate has always been an elite skateboarding brand, so we jumped at the opportunity to do a "20 years of chocolate" episode. it gave us a chance to tap a lot of skaters that have never been featured on the show before and its an honor just to ride in chocolate's wake.

we filmed more interviews than we have for any episode before—and this is still a fraction of the stories we could have told. the brand has gone through many different incarnations and endured its fair share of hardships. enjoy!

-----

part two!

in this part we talk about keenan milton, who got on the team a year or so after it formed. he was one of the best before his tragic death by drowning in 2001. the legendary 2003 skate video "yeah right!", features a short prologue paying tribute to keenan. every story we heard about keenan is what a great guy and friend he was and how much he is missed.

later on, we catch up with stevie williams to hear how chocolate inspired him to start his own brand, dgk.

-----

part three!

after last week's heavy episode, it's time to relax and watch part three, where we cover kenny anderson's rise from a reluctantly sponsored vegas local to "your favorite skater's favorite skater."

we talked with kenny about learning under brian lotti and chris miller, riding for planet earth until the very end and how artist marc johnson made his mark on girl and chocolate. enjoy!

-----

part four!

it's always interesting to see what skaters do after their time is up in professional skating and the difficulties they face entering the real world. we tracked down chocolate alumni everywhere from weed dispensaries to auto body shops to real estate firms. in the final chocolate episode, we tried to tie up all the loose ends and take a look at the future of the team. we also caught up with some of the trunk boyz and went to east la with vincent.

symirroretry (full length documentary film)!

before you watch this, check out the trailer, here! thanks!

five entities established in skateboarding share concepts of individuality, limitation, and knowledge learned from a constant evolving culture. a culture eternally cycling, dying and rebirthing. forced down dead end pathways by powerful business entities. manipulated of progression through decensitized internet labyrinths. two symmetrical beings, parallel in thought, know only that of which is seen. controlled by a vivid entity yet handicapped by a lack of capacity of free thought and expression. no ambition? no spirit and fulfillment? paintings of inner reflection. still, immovable and wondering; “what is my love and passion?” a documentary expressing the ‘artist’ journey of becoming. a parallel narrative supporting sentiment of fighting against conformity. a contribution of thought challenging comprehension and expansion. the story of symmetrical mirrors, formed as one entity.

a film by andrew lovgren.

cast: greg hunt, chris mulhern & chris fireoved, paul fish, arto saari, pontus alv, sammy covert, grant puckett and austin cosler.

archival footages courtesy of pontus alv & chris mulhern.

the beasts from the east!

one of the raddest things about skating is going new places, searching for new spots. boiling heat, packs of mentally disturbed monkeys and 100% skateboarding define this three-week journey through bali as the beasts from the east — an 11-person crew from germany — seek out untouched spots and skate everything from ancient temple grounds to jungle mini ramps. find the time and give filmmaker sebastian linda's visual treat a watch. you won't be disappointed.
