ride in peace, dylan rieder...

today is a really sad day for the skateboarding community worldwide...

news came in all over the skateboarding social media, that dylan joseph rieder, passed on earlier today, the 12th of october 2016, at an early age of 28, due to complications battling cancer, leukemia to be precise.

you were really one of a kind, the best at what you did and also, a truly inspirational individual. yet you have gone too young, too soon... maybe the skate gods have better plans for you up there, somewhere...

ride in peace, dylan and my regards to all the legendary skate rats that have passed on and are there with you above the clouds.

legends never die and you'll forever be remembered in our hearts. thank you for the mark and impact that you have made for the skateboarding culture, community and skate souls worldwide.

sculpt or die - john cardiel!

photo: ehren bienert

"i did this sculpt to honour one of skateboarding's most incredible individuals. it wasn't a commission or anything. i really did it for myself. but as i came close to finishing the sculpt, i thought ‘why not send it to john?' i'm really glad i did. it's the least i could do for a guy who gave so much inspiration to the skateboarding community. when he recieved the sculpture via the guys at dlx, he called me to thank me for it. when i realized who i was on the phone with i couldn't breathe. lol! i was so hyped! thanks, john!

i want to thank the guys out at dlx for helping me finish the sculpture. jim thiebaud and damon thorny, both sent me photos that helped me out tremendously. when the sculpt was finished, i sent it to dlx and they made sure john recieved it.

i love mark gonzales, so i'm gonna quote him again here speaking about cards in the transworld "sight unseen" film. “he's an original ripper; he's an original coors." i'd say that about sums it up. there are few people who epitomize the spirit of skateboarding like john cardiel. if you don't know that, then you need to go watch his videos. enough said!"

r.i.p tom sims...

sims ©image: sims skateboards / snowboards

a game-changing pioneer in both the skateboard and snowboard industry, longtime santa barbara area resident tom sims was pronounced dead at cottage hospital late wednesday night. according to friends, the 61-year-old sims died from a massive heart attack.

originally from new jersey, sims moved to santa barbara in 1971 and soon took up residence on mountain drive. already an accomplished skater and surfer, sims blossomed in his new environment. eventually, at different times during the next couple decades, both sims skateboards and sims snowboards would be at the top of their respective industries, with sims generally credited for being the driving force behind the modern snowboard.

tom’s accomplishments speak for themselves,” begins a statement released by sims snowboards today. “a true pioneer, tom brought forward-thinking concepts and innovations that forever changed the landscape of the snow and skate industry. his constant quest for the deepest powder, the longest downhill road, and the smoothest wave has been and always will be an inspiration to us all.”

sims is survived by his wife, hilary; sister, margie klinger; daughter, sarah; sons, tommy and shane; and stepdaughters, alexa and kylie wagner.

100% gnar!

here's john cardiel with special guest appearances by julien stranger, joey tershay and max schaaf, skating in denver, sacramento and strawberry lodge in the years 2002 - 2003.

-----

and here's another tribute jam done in honour of the living legend and one of the rawest all around 100% skateboarding ripper on the planet, cards! here's the one and only, short sharp shock, yo!!!

what would cards do?
-----
hit the deck, your nearly dead
blood and grit swims round your head
doc sez you wont walk again
resign to quit? wont comprehend

down the snake back to square one
need that speed so boom its on
breathing hard chest is tight
stoke the fire reignite

think of the name absorb the pain
stand on your two feet begin again
bloodied and battered laying on the floor
dust yourself off get in the mix back for more

suck it up take the slam
plug it up drop right back on in
when your stretched out black and blue
when more than the winds knocked out of you

then think - what would cards do?
- sss.

a'ight, enjoy and have a great day, y'all!

ironxhanger ©click on the image above to enlarge.

john cardiel, my hero and idol! and just 'cause cards is an advocate of street fixed gear bike ridin', it does not mean i have to ride one too, right? i am seriously not into that shit! but if that's what you like to do and you're into it, go ahead and have fun.

anyway, the image above is a mixed media collage i threw up just earlier as i was bored doing absolutely nothing ta'day. hope y'all like it as i did enjoy doing it and please show me some love / hate, all you kind peeps that visit my stupid blog. ha!

a'ight, that's all fo' now. all hail cardiel!

peace.

p.s. to all you dimwits who thinks cards is still paralysed, where the fuq have you been?
