fdr skatepark: a visual history.

fdr skatepark began its life in 1996 with a few small obstacles built by the city of philadelphia in an attempt to meet the needs of a growing community. in true d-i-y fashion, local skaters soon gathered their resources and began the ongoing construction of a space of their own design. as the world's largest d-i-y skateboard park, today fdr is recognized throughout the world as a landmark in the skateboarding community. a photographic history of fdr, this book contains work from more than 25 contributors, from amateurs with disposable cameras to professional photographers. side by side with the actual skateboarding are photos of wildfires, box cutter wounds, riot police, and drunks shooting sewer rats. complete with oral histories gathered from park locals, this one-of-a-kind record documents the legend and landscape of the past fifteen years under the bridge.

biography.
-----

my name is bryan peterson, from hawthorne, california. im an avid skateboarder / artist interested in the grimey, gnarly, super hesh "destroy everything" style of skateboarding, which i try to capture / promote in my art. i spent most of my years at my local skate park (hawthorne skatepark) a.k.a. the dirty, skating and gettin into all sorts of hijinks. which inspired most of my creations. you can see more of my work on my blog, here or my website here.

art: black emperor

i wanted to start doing designs, etc and was looking through and thinking of sites / magazines to contribute stuff to, and i thought of ironxhanger. so attached is the design i did.

i also intend to have this screen printed. i will cover the the costs for that, and maybe have a very limited run of 5 or 7 or 10, i'd pass you one when i have it done, ok?

also since ironxhanger is the vehicle for this design, if there are sales made from the poster, i'd like to pass you a small sum to help you maintain the site, buy snacks, etc...

physical size is about 25.11cm x 70cm. i update you on this when its printed, etc...

thanks yo... keep pushin' and stay safe!

full bleed.

skateboarding in new york city is a singular experience. it is impossible not to feel the magnitude of the landscape and with the city in constant motion, skateboarding is both exhilirating and extremely dangerous. there is no right or wrong way to navigate this vast terrain. only one thing is certain — the skaters and images produced in new york city are wholly unique.

the shots in full bleed span 30 years, with contributions from over 60 photographers. this is the first-ever comprehensive overview of one of the most diverse and rich skating locations in the world, bringing together legendary skaters and iconic photographers.
