juan perez is a skater from southern california, who was inspired by johnny romano’s story and took it upon himself to raise money for johnnykickscancer. we caught up with juan to hear his story and gotta say with skaters like juan involved the future of skateboarding looks bright.

fdr skatepark: a visual history.

fdr skatepark began its life in 1996 with a few small obstacles built by the city of philadelphia in an attempt to meet the needs of a growing community. in true d-i-y fashion, local skaters soon gathered their resources and began the ongoing construction of a space of their own design. as the world's largest d-i-y skateboard park, today fdr is recognized throughout the world as a landmark in the skateboarding community. a photographic history of fdr, this book contains work from more than 25 contributors, from amateurs with disposable cameras to professional photographers. side by side with the actual skateboarding are photos of wildfires, box cutter wounds, riot police, and drunks shooting sewer rats. complete with oral histories gathered from park locals, this one-of-a-kind record documents the legend and landscape of the past fifteen years under the bridge.

good wood exhibit benefitting power house productions’ rideit sculpture park.

100 artists, including emerica pros ed templeton and jerry hsu created/donated skateboards to be sold at the good wood exhibition skateboard deck art online auction—the first in a series of events benefiting rideit sculpture park. the auction raised over $25,000 and 100% of funds raised will go to the initial rideit sculpture park build beginning early june.

in a unique and diverse detroit neighborhood, a transition is taking place. while some people are moving out, others are starting to move back in. there's a devotion to this unique community—and there's a challenge to create a place within that's rich in diversity, exciting and fun live in, and beautiful and clean to play in. this is where ride it sculpture park gets its inspiration. and come this summer, with your help, it'll become the first sculpture park for skateboarders. a place where a neighborhood can meet, create, build, learn a trick, and ride on.

greg mike x real skateboards for johnnykickscancer.

spend any time around the city of atlanta and you’re likely to run across one of greg mike’s loud mouth stickers plastered across a street sign or wall. no stranger to minting his own appropriation of custom decks for a range of the city’s artists, djs and skaters alike, he has developed quite a following for himself over the years through his uniquely characterized aesthetics that are seen emblazoned across walls and canvases alike. the atlanta native recently joined real skateboards to curate a spring 2012 custom capsule collection alongside the storied brand. for the collaborative, greg mike lent his hand to a taut range of five custom-designed ramondetta and brock signature real decks. a testament to the duo’s well-intentioned motives, greg mike designed a one of a kind three-foot-tall “mad can” peter ramondetta version that was hand-painted, and will be auctioned off with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit the johnnykickscancer foundation. aligning with the skate deck range, real unleashes a short film highlighting the progression of the mad can creation while the decks will see a release through select stockists.
