utr 3 recap.

“under the radar” 3 went down this past weekend up at atlas in san mateo, ca and here is a glimpse of the action… the posse rolled deep in the stussy van up to norcal for the weekend to represent and it was well worth it. a great turnout was on hand at atlas. those guys did a great job of attracting the local skate crowd and getting a large majority of the photographers to come kick it, too.

big ups to pabst for supplying the beverages; thanks to the team at atlas for holding it down; and thank you, bay area, for being such a gracious host.

until next time!

the stoke: skateboarding in brisbane.

the stoke: skateboarding in brisbane, australia event was from 5th november 201027th march 2011.

the stoke: skateboarding in brisbane, australia.

discover the meaning of ‘the stoke’ as mob investigates the enduring culture of skateboarding in brisbane – its people, legends and stories.

the stoke was an exciting all access pass to brisbane skateboarding history and culture for everyone – hardcore skateboarders, the uninitiated, museum lovers, design aficionados, extreme sports heads and fans of pop-culture.

the stoke also explored the intersection of physical and artistic expression that defines the pursuit of skateboarding and the camaraderie that unites brisbane skateboarders from all walks of life from the 1960s to today.

a highlight was a replica skate bowl, inspired by the legendary moorooka skate shed, that came alive throughout the exhibition with demonstrations and workshops involving members of brisbane’s skateboarding community.

the bowl has subsequently been donated and rehoused at the god bowl, 22 weckers road, mansfield, were it can continue to be enjoyed by the community.

skateboard decks tapestries.

it's nice that ©
in the art basel convention center, mounir fatmi’s skateboards covered in prayer carpet tapestries were mesmerizing. the colors were so vivid, and i enjoy the play between a sacred tapestry covering a skateboard. the colors shimmered on these prayer rugs, and seemed ironic that they were mounted on a skateboard – a fun ‘toy’ meant to ride around the streets with. maybe the artist wanted to comment on the sacredness of riding skateboards? either way, i think they are fabulous. they were shown scattered about the floor at lombard-freid booth.

- it's nice that.
