“berlin”!!! \m/

just be very careful for what you wish for... †

this time around our mission was to do an entire issue on our hometown of “berlin” - an ode to the city’s future and past with some present thrown in the mix for good measure.

and here’s a little sneak peek on what’s happening in our “berlin” issue.

- david lichtenauer... is dividing his time between building high-concept skate ramps, high-concept airplanes and high-concept miniature filmsets - amongst many other creative high-concept things.

- thomas von wittich... has been following berlin’s notorious graffiti crew “berlin kidz“ for two years - and luckily for us he always carried a camera with him.

- moscowman... probably is the hottest ticket on today’s dance floors, not only in berlin but world wide - and we had a long conversation with the young Israeli about his mission to free all dance floors.

- ruth wolf-rehfeldt... is an unfairly forgotten genius from the former gdr, whose art is very complex, very skilled, very elaborate - and it was entirely created with her trusted typewriter.

- more eloquent statements and visual awesomeness about “berlin” from the likes of: lukas feireiss, andreas gehrke, anna uddenberg, live from earth, conny maier, zhivago duncan, alex gnädiger and many others.

cover by daniel josefson  (r.i.p. 1961 - 2016).

the “berlin” magazine has the format 200mm width x 250mm height and features high quality print, different paper stocks & comes with flaps + specials colors!

magazines, mutafukkas!

the boss catches a copy of the new issue and waxes poetic from figgy’s front all the way to the back cover. we’re still making 200 page mags!

got me'self the latest issue ov thrasher magazine november 2016 - issue #436 and i think the boss has got to be the first person ever, to be featured on the first look video of thrasher magazine to point out how many fucking shoe advertisements there are featured in the bible. ha!!! =D

also, fuck the 2020 olympics, which will be held in japan to have skateboarding as an event. fuck that bullshit, seriously! but if you’re into that sorta shit, and your perspective and angle of skateboarding is a form of “sport”, you do you, a’ight? who the fuck am i to force feed my personal views of the skateboarding culture to anyone, right? it’s the end of skateboarding as most of us have known it to be...

after the big anniversary issue #100 we thought it’s a brilliant idea to deal with youth and its subsequent cultures - before we’re getting too old to have a clue about it. this is the first issue in a series of shape-shifting editions in a mono-thematic fashion.

and here’s a little sneak peek on what’s happening in our youth issue

- don letts... the original culture clash master, who single-handedly turned a generation of punks into reggae enthusiasts, speaks his mind about youth culture’s rich past and rather sober present.

- mark oblow... has been busy building his own brand moblow between surfing, skating, consulting, shooting photos for various clients and enjoying the beaches and food of costa mesa.

- less... the celebrated south korean photographer is an expert when it comes to capturing seoul’s youth, which has the tendency to completely lose it as soon as the weekend arrives.

- sylvan rand... was there, he witnessed all the new styles and movements and protests of the last five decades, and saw how the youngsters finally liberated themselves - and luckily for us, he finally decided to open his impressive archive to the public.

- more eloquent statements and visual awesomeness about “youth“ from the likes of: trevor jackson, zuza krajewska, mike blabac, the internet, gaurab thakali, kazuhiro hori and many others...

specs for the trump card players: 220 mm width x 274 mm height, portrait format, high quality print, different paper stocks, uv lacquer.

it's that time of the month again, kinda...

lodown magazine #70 february/march 2010
ironxhanger ©yet another great issue of this magazine straight outta germany/europe. inside this thick slab features skateboarders from "the holy land" (?), israel; jani laitiala, a talented kid on board from helsinki, finland who now resides in sao paulo, brazil and artist/skateboarder, olafur eliasson from denmark/iceland who joined forces with mekanism, a skateboard company from france, creating master pieces on decks resulting on what's called "the mercury ocean", a reflective coating on the bottom ply of the boards. also featuring artists such as robert indiana; franz hoefner's & herry sachs's art installations; art duo doppel denk; micheal johansson; a young designer, aitor throup; surrealist painter, nicola verlato; japanese american artist, tomokazu matsuyama and rob ryan. not forgetting some band(s) and artist(s) interviews too. also, lotsa products, press and music reviews inside too. and what's lodown without "black is beautiful" 'zine that comes smack in between the pages of this magazine.

color magazine volume 8 issue 2 summer 2010
ironxhanger ©where and how the fuck do i even start to review this beautiful slab? seriously, this is one of my top reads when it comes to skateboarding magazines besides thrasher and that goes without saying, of course. inside this canadian based magazine features... fuck it! go out to your local bookstore and grab yourself a copy. this is too good to even be put into words and my review will only ruin expectations of what color offers. but i have to say a few words before i jump onto my next review, color has one of the top skateboarding photography and features, in an artsy perspective and point of view, 'nuff said. go out and cop one!

thrasher magazine june 2010 - issue #359
ironxhanger ©what can i say about thrasher magazine? not much can be put into words. thrasher magazine, in my personal opinion, features the most hardcore skateboarders in the skateboarding world. notice that i didn't use the word "industry"? 'cause skateboarding is not a fucking industry, it's a fuckin' culture for dog's sake! it's either you get it or you don't, simple as that. thrasher magazine has been around since 1981, that's 29 fuckin' years and they have paid their dues. enough of my ramblings, go out and cop yourself an issue, any issue and yeah july's issue is already out, if i am not mistaken.

transworld skateboarding june 2010
ironxhanger ©i didn't purchase this magazine. a friend handed it to me after he had finish reading it. the only time(s) i'll grab myself an issue of this magazine is when i have nothing else to read in the john's, seriously. i'd never recommend transworld skateboarding magazine to any one and iasc can shove this mag' up their arses. i hope i don't get sued for saying that... ha! whatever man...

magazine reviews.

the skateboarding revolution issue no. 99
ironxhanger ©the publisher for the skateboarding revolution, adam, sent me this along with a few back issues in the mail a few weeks ago for review. inside this thin bi-lingual skateboarding magazine from malaysia are interviews with malaysian skateboarders; ja and apit from kedah. also featuring fuad’s pro(?) set up, fairuzal from penang, bank 2 bank competition review that was held at cineleisure damansara sometime back, espn summer x-games 2009, terror from los angeles, california and carpathian isolution tour. also some news, product reviews and tons of nicely shot skateboarding photographs. issue no.100 will probably be out sometime next week, so look out for that.

check out the skateboarding revolution.

color magazine volume 7 issue 3 2009
ironxhanger ©wow! this special edition of color magazine is big, physically! there’s so much jammed in this colourful issue and i don’t even know where to start. this issue features the next and the best of the north american skateboarding scene. amazingly good read! there are a plenty of great stuff inside this ginormous slab and all i can say is, you have to check it out for yourself. amazing, simply amazing! also just fyi, color magazine is published on recycled paper and uses soy based inks to print with. that always makes me smile and also makes me look forward for upcoming issues. color 7.4 is already out and i'm anticipating for it to hit local book stores.

check out color magazine.

lodown magazine #67 july/august/september 2009
ironxhanger ©another great issue by this german/european publication. this magazine covers skateboarding, lifestyle, fashion and art. interviews with skateboarders; stefan janoski and anthony van engelen. also features tons of band interviews (too many to name drop). there’re also news, product reviews and abundance of fabulous fashion and art photography. pick this issue up if and when you can!

thrasher magazine september 2009 - issue #350
ironxhanger ©what can i say about this one? over two hundred pages of madness! have you picked up yours yet? october’s issue is out and i have yet to grab mine. skate and destroy!

check out thrasher magazine.

shiftymag. - august 2009 volume 1 issue #4
ironxhanger ©i picked this up at a mph book store in seremban, negeri sembilan, malaysia. there’re interviews with skateboarders; azreen from penang and deni tx from jakarta, indonesia. also featuring terence c about his skateboarding yester years, the opening of juice in kl, 8tv’s shout awards at bukit jalil last july, motion skate team from bali kl tour, klue’s urban scapes festival 2009 at klpac, the launch of the new push skate shop located at one utama, street horn syndicate and bangkit, malaysian’s own get up kids (pinkviolence: o rly?). some old news, product and sound reviews and well shot skateboarding photography. oh well, not too bad for a magazine that cost me rm5.50. september issue #5 is already out but i may be mistaken.

thrasher magazine may 2009 - issue #345 and thrasher magazine june 2009 - issue #346
absolutely no introduction needed for these slab from one of the most hardcore skateboard culture magazines that's out there. as usual they're always jammed packed with a whole load of great interviews, reviews, skateboarders and shit! so check it if you have not already!

thrasher magazine th1rt3en - (special photo issue | summer 2009)
antwuan fucking dixon on the cover page! what more can one ask for? this slab is jammed packed with photographs from the era of hardcore skateboarding since it's birth. pick this up now! it also includes a free sheet of stickers!

shiftymag. - may 2009 volume 1 issue #1
a good and slick new skateboarding magazine straight outta malaysia. it's in english language and if you're into transworld skateboarding, skateboarder and the skateboard mag, you'd probably like this publication. though i'm really not into any of those us based magazines to which i compared this publication with, i'm just biased because it's an asian publication. slick photography, layout, reviews, news and interviews. i quite enjoyed the "top 10 greatest skate videos of all time" section in this debut issue. pretty impressive start, i'd have to say.

shiftymag. - june 2009 volume 1 issue #2
another great effort by this english language skateboarders' own and run publication from malaysia. fuckin' slick layout! like i mentioned about the previous issue of this magazine, this shit is impressive! can't wait for the new issue(s)!

the skateboarding revolution issue no. 96
this publication from malaysia has turned more into a street culture magazine more than a skateboarding culture magazine. but all in all, it's still a good read (tho' most of it is in bahasa malaysia). also tons of great skateboarding photography too!

at the most bottom:
-----
sauce #006 and sauce #007
jam packed with a whole lot of underground pool riding photographs,
interesting columns and scene reports. this is a totally quality d.i.fuckin'y hardcore skateboarding publication from portland, oregon and the northwestern scene of the usa in a 'zine format! great stuff!

peace.
